August 2015 | Eagle Creek, Oregon with Scout

Posted on 8/29/2015

About a month after Caleb and I rescued little Miss. Scout Bailey, we decided it was time to take her on her first backpacking trip to see how she would handle it. I had camped with her before (and she did fine) and we had hiked with her before (which she was also fine with), so it was time to see if she would be okay with the combination of both. We settled on backpacking one night up Eagle Creek, it is about 7 miles to camping (one way).
We headed out Friday afternoon. Scout LOVED it, and had a great time. She did really well and had a TON of energy the entire hike (how?). Saturday morning, since no one was around - we started hiking around 7am - we let her off leash for most of the way back and she did great. We figure 7-8 miles would probably be her max in a day (she was definitely beat at at end of the days) but more hikes are in our future for sure :) We are even looking into getting her a little backpack to carry her own stuff as well!

^ Scout loves to sniff EVERYTHING. We think she is part hound. We brought her a bone, and she promptly buried it, it was adorable. I think everything she does is adorable.
 ^ our little camp spot.

Annddddd our adventure dog! :

^our campsite was right thru these trees and to the left.

We weren't sure how Scout would like the water, and she didn't love it at first. I think that she was never outside before she came to us, because she doesn't really seem to understand some things (like water, of pooping in the grass) but she is doing so much better and she was so cute in the water, after Caleb showed her how!

She was so cute waiting in our campsite for us in the morning.

^ these are my favorite pictures. I love them together!

^ the fires on the way back turned the ski a seriously questionable color.

November 2003 : Blue Mountains, Australia

Posted on 1/01/2015

When I was 16 my Dad and Uncle took my two cousins and I to Australia -  they gave me my ticket in a huge amazing birthday card, & we went for a week over Thanksgiving Break. The ultimate Dad/Daughter trip.

I recently found a bunch of the pictures, and these in particular that I loved! One day my cousins (still jet lagged, it's brutal) took a nap while I went with my Dad & Uncle on a little hike in the Blue Mountains. I'm guessing we were staying the city of Katooma, in New South Wales - but I don't really remember the logistics of the trip that well.
But I LOVE these pictures.

^ I don't have very many pictures of me & my Uncle, and even though this one is horribly backlit and you can't even see is it's really special to me. I miss him, & it still seems unbelievable to me that he is gone : luckily I have lots of great memories. Just yesterday my Mom and I were talking about how in 2000, we went to Grand Targhee and when he was skiing down with a flare -who thought that was a good idea???- his glove caught on fire and he had to stick it in a snow bank... so gone but not forgotten! :)

Happy 2015!

hike | October 16th 2013 | hike

Posted on 10/16/2013

After work today I HAD to go for a hike. Even though it looked like this-
and I knew I wouldn't have long. I figured I could go for a quick hike, and besides what was the worst that could happen? That I would hike in the dark?

^ Happily I found a 2 mile hike, which meant I did not have to hike in the dark :)

^ I LOVE how green the moss is.

^ I was quite impressed with the big leaves

I don't think I made it all the way to the falls, but it was getting dark and I figured I should head back to my car. I resolve to hike after work more often, it was amazing.
