janurary 2015 | grandma whitehead's keepsake book

One of the coolest things that we have found in my parents move has been this book.

This is a little book that my Great Grandma Whitehead (we called her this after my Uncle Curt nicknamed her this since her hair was totally white) kept, & after she died (when I was in middle school) my Mom took.

 

It is a book of all the pictures that my Mom sent her of my brother and me, she started it right when my brother was born & kept it until she died.

Here is the first page-

All the pictures are insanely adorable, but here are some of my favorite :

 ^ last page of the book. She was really good about updating it, because the last pictures would have been around Josh's freshman / sophomore years of high school, which is around when she died.

 

 

Marshall Islands (throwback #15)

I have been staying this week with my friend Matt, who I first met while we were both volunteer teachers in the Marshall Islands. We have been looking back at the pictures of orientation and laughing at so many ridiculous RMI stories. Like the time Kasey fell asleep while we were getting a lecture from the coast guard on how if we got lost at sea we would probably just die. Or the time that Todd sang karaoke, how we ate the most disgusting food every day, the sad little "grocery stores", how we were kinda jealous of some other volunteers who paid $15 for a block of cheese, and of course debating which is better: rice and corned beef hash, or rice and ravioli? (I am a rice and corned beef hash girl, myself.)

It's funny how different the experience we had ever  (his island had jungle, mine did not, he taught like 50 kids, I taught 200, he lived in the back of a church, I lived with a family, his family had a truck and three bikes, no one on my island had either of those things, I had one window he had one (that matters!!!) etc.) 

So here we are almost 2 years ago-which is crazy to think it was that long ago!

Also, I am sending lots of love to the RMI this week because the stupid super moon, high tide and global warming means that half of Majuro (the capital) is flooding!

throwback thursday 13 - my best friends 21st birthday

Happy (early) birthday to my best, oldest friend!!

(Because I will enjoy the 1 month & 2 days that you are a whole age older then me!)

In honor of her birthday I decided to post some of the best (read: least embarrassing, we are all approx. 1000x better looking now) pictures of her 21st birthday :) Which feels like forever ago, but it was only 5 years ago. So this is like the 5th anniversary of her 25th birthday.  Happy birthday!  (Please don't be mad that I posted these pictures, it because I love you!)

We went to this really amazing waffle place in Portland. It was so good, I remember that Christmas we tried to go back, but it was closed! :(

That night was SO FUN. I don't remember where exactly we went in Portland but I do remember: skee ball, karaoke...anddd..... broken glasses. 

I am so lucky to have a best friend....that I have known since I was 5 years old. No matter what, I know that she will always be there for me- I love her so much. Having someone in your life that you can tell anything to, and not worry about judgement is pretty special. Also never having to explain anything about your past (since she has been in my life for as long as I remember) is a pretty great thing too. xoxo

throwback thursday 12- OMSI After Dark

 Right before I left for the Marshall Islands, some of my friends & I from grad school went to OMSI After Dark- it was so fun! They open OMSI for adults only, & you get to drink beer & play with all the scool stuff. It's amazing! Elaine and I actually recently went to one (Mythbusters edition), they really are a great way to spend a Wednesday night! 

^ This nights "theme" was The Lion, Witch & The Wardrobe, this was a set from the movie. 

^ We climbed onto this sign. But I don't know how the girl in the middle is- a random. :/

I miss my grad school friends SO MUCH. I still see most of them sometimes...but it's not enough!

throwback thursday 11

I think that one of the best things about living/going away for college, was coming home. I know that sounds strange, but getting to come home and do so much fun stuff in such a short amount of time with all my Oregon friends was always something I looked forward to!!

These pictures are (I think/ I am pretty sure) from 2007, when I was home for January (after the Stowe trip). Two of my friends and I went out to this local place and had so. much. fun. I think it's insane how different we all look now. (I feel like I always say that in these posts.)

throwback thursday 10- Stowe, Vermont

When I lived in Boston, I really usually only came home twice a year, once around Christmas, and once in the summer(ish). In 2007, I didn't come home for Christmas (but did come home for three weeks in January!), and instead went to Stowe, Vermont on a ski vacation with my (then) boyfriends family. This was the one and only time I skied while I lived on the East Coast, and while it was fun I would say it's not an experience that I feel I need to repeat at all. :)

It was cold. it was icy, and the trails were like ten feet wide. What?! I was so confused.

^typical trail. I am/was not a fan. 

It was a really fun vacation though, I think we stayed about a week in this cute little cabin. On the way back we stopped at the Ben & Jerry's ice cream plant!!

throwback thursday - 8 Cheyann's graduation

Once upon a time, in like June of 2007, Cheyann graduated from High School. It's cool, she even had this amazing cake-

I was back visiting from Boston, so my parents and I went down for the weekend. 

I don't know why we were in the car with Little Foot, but I only have the most random pictures from this weekend. 

I love this picture of me and my Dad. I look SO YOUNG. & so does my Dad...hardly a gray hair to be seen.  :)

(And no, I don't have one single picture of me and Cheyann together. I have no idea why.)
